| HRSS volunteers are all
animal lovers who work together because of their shared
concern for the hundreds of rabbits that are abandoned
to shelters or released outdoors every year in Singapore.
As an HRSS volunteer you will educate people about
the responsibilities involved in owning a pet rabbit.
You can also help in rescuing abandoned rabbits and
you can provide a foster home while they await adoption.
Volunteering with HRSS is demanding but the rewards
will more than justify the efforts you put in. We guarantee
that you will have a fun time and establish friendships
which last a lifetime. But perhaps the biggest reward
will be the satisfaction of knowing that you made a
difference in the lives of helpless animals who can't
speak for themselves.
To be a HRSS volunteer, you must:
- Believe in and fully agree with HRSS
philosophy and policies
- Be a Singapore resident or have strong ties to Singapore.
If you do not satisfy this requirement, you may consider
joining rabbit welfare organisations in your community
such as the House
Rabbit Society.
How can you help HRSS?
We are looking for volunteers to help with the following
roles.
FOSTERING
HRSS runs a structured fostering programme to rescue
and re-home abandoned rabbits. HRSS-rescued rabbits
are kept at the homes of HRSS volunteers - called foster
parents - until they are adopted.
If you wish to be a foster parent, you need to have
prior experience in taking care of rabbits. The rabbit's
health and general well being will be your responsibility.
You will need to visit the vet if the rabbit in your
care falls sick or needs to be sterilised (HRSS will
reimburse medical expenses). You will also arrange meetings
between the rabbit and potential adopters at your home.
SCHOOL TALKS
Our schools' programme serves to impart the
young with the right attitude in treating and caring
for animals. We need volunteers who can organise talks
and fundraisers at schools. You will work with our Education
Officer and it is expected that you have an outgoing
personality and are comfortable giving talks to a large
audiences. Most school talks are on weekdays.
WRITERS, PUBLIC RELATIONS AND CREATIVE POSITIONS
You will contribute articles for our website
and the quarterly newsletter. You will work closely
with our Editor. Volunteers for this role should have
a good command of the English language.
OTHER POSITIONS
We also need volunteers for the following
roles:
- Proper rabbit care guidance or counselling for new rabbit owners.
- Organising and managing fund-raising events.
- Sourcing of incentives or sponsorships for the Friends of HRSS program.
| Please note that to become a HRSS volunteer, you
are required to fully agree with HRSS philosophy
and policies. Specifically, HRSS volunteers agree
never to breed rabbits or exploit them for commercial
reasons. If you've read and understood all of the
above, and want to become a Volunteer, please click
here to complete an online application form.
We gladly welcome you to the family, and hope to
work with you soon. |
