Breeds
Taken from the books
'The Essential Rabbit' & 'The Rabbit Handbook'
When the rabbit was first domesticated, there was only
one 'breed'. Now, however, there are forty-five breeds
of rabbits recognized by the American Rabbit Breeders
Association. Obviously, this wide variety means that choosing
one particular breed over another can be a daunting task.
CHOOSING
A BREED
When considering which breed to acquire, keep your
needs and lifestyle in mind. If you live
in a small space and do not have room for a large cage,
you may want to consider one of the dwarf breeds. If
your time is limited, you will definitely want to stay
away from the wooly breeds, as they require frequent
grooming. If you have older children who plan to handle
the rabbit, you will want to get a smaller breed which
they can easily lift.
