World Animal Day Celebrations 2003

Date: 2 November 2003, Sunday
Time: 2pm - 10pm
Venue: Fort Canning Park

World Animal Day is celebrated around the world each year. On this day, groups and individuals from all over get together to publicly recognise the important contribution animals make to society, and the important role all animals, big and small, play in the everyday lives of millions of people. It is also a time for all groups associated with animals to unite in the promotion of kindness, love and respect for living beings other than ourselves.

Cat Welfare Society’s annual World Animal Day Celebrations this year, promises to be even bigger and better! To be held at Fort Canning Green, on Sunday, 2nd November from 2pm to 10pm, this event will see the largest assembly of animal welfare and nature conservation groups in Singapore. Sixteen groups including the Cat Welfare Society, Animal Concerns Research & Education Society, Action for Singapore Dogs, Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority, Friends of Animals, House Rabbit Society of Singapore, MettaCats, Nature Society of Singapore, Noah’s Ark Lodge, Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Vegetarian Society of Singapore, SOS Animals, Wildlife Singapore, Wildaid and Green Volunteers Network among others, will all be there to inform and raise awareness on animal issues.

To bring about a carnival atmosphere, there will be lots of activities for the whole family. Members of the public can bring along a picnic basket to this free event and enjoy “Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde” that will be shown on a big screen. They can also go on guided nature walks around Fort Canning, or learn to prepare yummy vegetarian food and even healthy smoothies! There will also be an assortment of food and drink stalls for the public who may not wish to pack their own food.

For the young and young at heart, there will be face painting, balloon animals, henna painting, clowns, game stalls and even a bouncy castle! Visitors can also make origami animals as a symbol of the animals we are all trying to save and have these strung up around Fort Canning Green on the day of the event. Celebrities will also be on hand to lend some glitter to the event.

The event is proudly supported by Starlight Cinema, Whiskas and Cesar. “Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde” is provided courtesy of 20th Century Fox, Singapore.
