Did you know that over
a 1000 rabbits are abandoned in Singapore every year?
HRSS volunteers are all animal lovers who work together
because of their shared concern for the hundreds of
rabbits that are abandoned in Singapore every year.
HRSS runs a structured fostering programme to rescue
and re-home abandoned rabbits. HRSS-rescued rabbits
are kept at the homes of our volunteers - called Foster
Parents - until they are adopted. Every rescued rabbit
is spayed or neutered, receives individual care including
toys, medical care, healthy food and treats, and lots
of love.
Given the huge numbers of rabbits that are abandoned
in Singapore every year, our foster homes are almost
always fully occupied. Sadly, we have had to turn away
many abandoned rabbits to other animal welfare organisations
like the SPCA, while SPCA runs the largest animal shelter
in Singapore it receives over 1,000 unwanted animals
every single month. The sad reality is that less than
10% of these animals find good homes and the rest have
to be humanely euthanised.
In order to save lives of more rabbits, we are urgently
seeking new Foster Parents to join HRSS.
What does it take to
be a Foster Parent?
If you wish to be a Foster Parent, you should ideally
have prior experience in taking care of rabbits. But
what if you have never cared for rabbits? You can still
be a Foster Parent if you are an animal lover and are
willing to learn about rabbit care and behaviour. Our
volunteers will only be too happy to guide you along
the way.
Responsibilities of a
Foster Parent
You will be responsible for the rabbit's health and
general well-being. If the rabbit in your care falls
sick or needs to be sterilised, you'll need to visit
the vet. HRSS will reimburse you for all medical expenses
incurred.
You will also arrange meetings between the rabbit and
potential adopters at your home and at HRSS
Adoption Drives. You will work closely with our
Fostering and Adoptions Coordinator to find the best
possible home for the rabbit in your care.
We recognise that being a Foster Parent is demanding
but the rewards will more than justify the efforts you
put in. Our network of volunteers and foster parents
have all made new friends and enjoyed the kinship of
like-minded people from all walks of life. But perhaps
your biggest reward will be the satisfaction of knowing
that you made a difference in the lives of helpless
animals who cannot speak for themselves.
Next Step
If you're ready to open your heart and home, and make
a difference to the lives of abandoned rabbits, please
send an email to information@hrss.net.
Please include your full contact details and our Fostering
and Adoptions Coordinator will get in touch shortly.
